Patterns of Righteousness
Establish patterns of righteousness. Make your home a center of spiritual experiences.
My great great grandfather was one of the first Welsh converts. He was called on a mission to go back to Wales and teach the gospel. He and his companion had to catch a train to go back east to sail for Wales. But it was very cold in Cache Valley. They trudged through the snow all day. His journal entry said that at the end of the day, they could still see where they had camped the night before. He could have turned back, but he was determined to continue. He had been called to serve a mission, and would not quit. If he had turned back, he never would have found my grandmother. Because he established righteous patterns, I am here today.
There is so much noise in the world around us. Be still and listen to the Lord. We are never released as parents. Parents need to devote their best efforts to teaching the gospel to their children. Make the home the center of gospel lives.
Doctrine and Covenants 52:14-18
14 And again, I will give unto you a pattern in all things, that ye may not be deceived; for Satan is abroad in the land, and he goeth forth deceiving the nations--
15 Wherefore he that prayeth, whose spirit is contrite, the same is accepted of me if he obey mine ordinances.
16 He that speaketh, whose spirit is contrite, whose language is meek and edifieth, the same is of God if he obey mine ordinances.
17 And again, he that trembleth under my power shall be made strong, and shall bring forth fruits of praise and wisdom, according to the revelations and truths which I have given you.
18 And again, he that is overcome and bringeth not forth fruits, even according to this pattern, is not of me.
If someone gives offense, show love and tolerance. Be contrite in spirit. Love and care for one another. A contrite spirit takes obedience to the guidance of Heavenly Father. Establish righteous patterns and you will know what to do.

Another pattern of righteousness: Let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly. (D&C 121:45)
We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul— We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report, we seek after these things. (13th article of faith)
