The Parable of the Turtle

There was a turtle in California who wanted to go to Florida.  He didn’t want to walk all the way, but he had a plan.  He made an agreement with some pelicans who were flying east. They would put a rope around their necks and fly to Florida while the turtle hung onto the rope. Everything went well until they got over Texas.  A farmer and his wife were standing out in their yard. The wife said, “Hey look at how that turtle is traveling.  How clever that is!  I wonder whose idea that was?”

The turtle said, “It was my-y-y-y-  idea-a-a-a-a-a-“  And that was the end of the ride.

Moral of the story.

1.    Keep your mouth shut.
2.    The higher you go, the farther you fall.
3.    Hold to the iron rod, or the word of God. Don’t let go.
4.    The matter of pride. Sometimes we can’t keep our mouth shut about a “good idea”. The plan of happiness is Heavenly Father’s idea. Trust in Him and give Him the glory, lest we become prideful. The Savior said, except we become humble as little children, we cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever is humble; we must be humble as little children. Satan cannot tempt little children.
