Be clean in every way. Some day you will meet the man or woman of your dreams. Be clean for the sake of your future companion. Be clean for the sake of your posterity. Be clean for the sake of your self-respect. ~Gordon B. Hinckley

Messages of inspiration from President Gordon B. Hinckley

    Be clean
Be clean. We live in a world that is filled with filth and sleaze, a world that reeks of evil. It is all around us. It is on the television screen. It is at the movies. It is in the popular literature. It is on the Internet. It is in the lyrics of popular songs. It is available through the telephone. You cannot afford to watch or listen to it. You cannot afford to let that filthy poison touch you. Stay away from it. Avoid it. Shun it like the plague. You can't rent videos that portray degrading things without expecting to have them affect you in destructive ways.
Avoid evil talk. Do not take the name of the Lord in vain. From the thunders of Sinai the finger of the Lord wrote on tablets of stone, "thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain" (Exodus 20:7). It is not a mark of sophistication to use crude or profane language, as many are prone these days to do. Such language only marks you as someone who has no respect for anything sacred. Profanity is the sign of an uneducated, uncultured, careless man or woman.

   Repentance/forgiveness
Now, if you have stepped over the line and slipped along the way, don't give up hope. There is hope for you. There is repentance. And there is forgiveness. That process begins with prayer. Share your burden with God. Share your burden with your parents, if you can. And counsel with a priesthood leader, if you should. You will pay a price if you have slipped, but if you are willing to repent, there can be a good life ahead.
Be clean in every way. Some day you will meet the man or woman of your dreams. Be clean for the sake of your future companion. Be clean for the sake of your posterity. Be clean for the sake of your self-respect.
